Elon Musk and his team have officially launched Grok-3, a cutting-edge artificial intelligence model available on X (formerly Twitter). This latest AI iteration possesses advanced capabilities such as programming code generation, image creation from textual descriptions, content translation, and providing comprehensive answers across a wide range of topics.
Grok-3: A Major Leap in AI Technology
According to Musk, Grok-3 has undergone training that is ten times more extensive than its predecessor, leading to significantly improved accuracy and depth in responses. The AI introduces two distinct reasoning modes:
- Think Mode: Displays the AI’s reasoning process as it formulates responses.
- Big Brain Mode: Designed for complex tasks that require higher computational power.
During a demonstration by xAI, the Think Mode was used to generate code for a 3D animation simulating a rocket launch from Earth, landing on Mars, and returning in the next launch window. The AI processed this request in just 114 seconds.
In contrast, the Big Brain Mode was tested with a more demanding task: “Using Pygame, create a game that combines Tetris and Bejeweled. The code should be a single file and be incredibly cool.” While the exact processing time was not disclosed, xAI presented the complete response, including the fully generated code and explanatory details.
Exclusive Access and Subscription Plans
The advanced reasoning capabilities of Grok-3 are only available to X Premium Plus subscribers. Notably, the cost of this subscription has recently increased to $40 per month in the United States. This marks the second price hike in just two months, following a rise from $16 to $22 in December 2024.
Additionally, xAI has introduced a new subscription tier named SuperGrok, offering early access to the most advanced AI features for $30 per month in the U.S.
Grok-3 Availability and Free Access to Grok-2
At present, Grok-3 is exclusively accessible to X Premium Plus subscribers. However, free users of X can still use Grok-2, the previous iteration of the AI. While Grok-2 retains many core functionalities, xAI has confirmed that it does not have the same extensive training data as Grok-3.
For non-subscribers, interaction with Grok-2 is limited to 10 messages every two hours. Once this limit is reached, users must wait for two hours before sending additional messages. Despite these restrictions, free users can still access useful features such as conversation history, conversation bookmarking, and a distraction-free focus mode, which puts Grok in full-screen mode while suppressing X notifications.
Subscription Plans on X
X offers a structured subscription model under X Premium, which is divided into three tiers:
- Basic: Includes fundamental features such as editing posts, uploading longer videos, prioritizing replies, organizing bookmarks, text formatting, and custom app icons.
- Premium: Enhances the user experience by adding features like verification checkmarks, reduced ads, revenue-sharing options for creators, and greater reply prioritization. It also includes identity verification, access to Media Studio, and the ability to use Grok AI.
- Premium Plus: The highest-tier subscription, which eliminates ads, maximizes reply prioritization, and provides exclusive access to premium articles. However, some promotional content may still appear.
The Future of AI Integration on X
The launch of Grok-3 marks a pivotal moment in AI-driven social media interactions. As AI technology continues to evolve, platforms like X are positioning themselves at the forefront of intelligent automation. Musk’s vision for xAI suggests a future where AI seamlessly integrates into daily online experiences, enhancing everything from content creation to complex computational tasks.
With Grok-3’s increasing capabilities and the introduction of subscription-based access, the AI landscape on X is set to expand significantly. Whether this model will drive mass adoption remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Grok-3 is pushing the boundaries of what artificial intelligence can achieve in real-time user interactions.
